Job

Chapter 25

Job 25:1-6

v. 1 - In this short speech, which is his third in the series, Bildad makes no reply to what Job has just spoken; rather, he makes further remarks upon the sovereignty of God in an apparent effort to discourage Job from justifying himself.

v. 2 - "Dominion" = Heb = "to rule"

"high places" = heavenly worlds; universe

God is the Sovereign of the heavenlies, ruling over angels, good and bad, even Satan himself (cf. Rev 9:5; Rev 13:5; Rev 13:7), maintaining peace by His sovereign control of all, which is seen in the orderliness of the sun, moon, planets, stars, galaxies, etc.

"Everywhere the Lord worketh all things, and there is no power which escapes his supremacy. It is well for us that it is so: one bandit force wandering through the Lord’s domains defying his control would cast fear and trembling over all the provinces of providence." - C.H. Spurgeon

v. 3 - "armies" = good angels; even the stars - cf. Jdg 5:20

vv. 4-6 - God is sovereign; He is also light (cf. 1 Jo 1:5). Whatever light there is in creation comes from Him. The moon and stars, which declare His glory (cf. Psa 19:1), pale in comparison with Him (cf. Acts 26:13). Therefore, it should be plainly seen that sinful man, who is bred in corruption (first use of 'worm' in v. 6) and is but an insignificant, groveling creature (second use of 'worm' in v. 6), does not declare the glory of God.

Thus, Bildad, though speaking the truth, continues to apply it wrongly, making one last stab at Job, no doubt hoping Job will finally confess his wickedness, or at least stop trying to justify himself before the sovereign God.
